Do courses run each semester? If so, what are the 1st and last dates of the course?

Courses are self paced and continuous entry.  You can start any time, but we do work within the constraints of the semester timetable (Semester 1 : Sep 7- Feb 4. Semester 2: Feb 7-Jun 29).  Courses will receive a final mark at the end of the semester.  If you don’t pass the course during the first semester, you are able to re-enroll in the same course and complete the credit (from where you left off) and earn a passing final grade.  Courses that are not completed by the end of second semester will receive a final mark with no option to complete the course the following year.  The course would need to be started from scratch.

When is the last date I can register for each semester?

There is no absolute deadline for registration during the first semester, but whenever you start, you need to know that you will be receiving a final mark at the end of the semester.  If you have not had enough time to complete the credit, the mark will likely not be a passing grade.  We do not generally accept new registrations in second semester after March 31st.  Contact the local site lead teacher if you want to register after that point.

How many courses can I take at one time?

Up to 4 courses can be taken at one time, if the timetable allows.  If a course is completed early in the semester, you can add a course.

Can I come into the school to do my work?

The Learning Commons at each site is open from 9:00 am to 12:55 pm and BTS students are welcome to come work in that space during that time.  There is a teacher in that space during that time that can help with technical issues and subject specific help as needed.  There is also access to a limited number of Chromebooks for student use on site.

Can I meet with a teacher 1 on 1 in real life? I need more than just a few minutes of help.

Each site has an English/Social Science, Science and Math specialist that is available in the Learning Commons for one period each day (75 min block between 9am and 12:55pm).  Contact your local site to find out which teacher is available in each block.  The local site subject teacher may or may not be the teacher of your particular course, but they have expertise in that subject area and will help as much as they can.  You can also meet with your actual teacher by phone or Google Meet.  Contact the teacher directly via email to set this up.

What happens if I don't finish all of my courses before the end of the semester? Can I continue where I left off in the next semester?

Courses will receive a final mark at the end of the semester.  If you don’t pass the course during the first semester, you are able to re-enroll in the same course and complete the credit and earn a final grade based on all the work you have submitted.  Courses that are not completed by the end of second semester will receive a final mark with no option to complete the course the following year.  The course would need to be started from scratch.
